What do you love most about surfing?
I always was in love with the beach and the life style that it allows me to have, the quality and variety of the waves that our beaches allow us to enjoy… What I like most about surfing is the contact with nature and the sensation of peace and freedom I feel catching waves.
What is your favorite break or breaks? What do you do when you aren't surfing (job)?
My preferred places to surf are Playa Hermos in Jaco, Esterillo Centro, Avellanes and Pavones. I am a mother of two precicous daughters, Giuliana , 8 years old, and Daniela, who is three. I am the Assistant Executive of Rythmia Life Advancement Center in Hacienda Pinillas, so my schedule is quite full. Thank God I always succeed in taking time to enjoy the waves.
Are there other sports that you like or another form of training?
I have a great passion for sports. I was a swimmer for nine years and competed at the international level. I like Mountain Biking, running on the beach and I do functional training 4 - 5 times a weeks at WISE Training Studio in Tamarindo.https://www.facebook.com/pages/Wise-Training-Studio/586693838131134
Have you participated in surf contests? Do you prefer to be a "soul surfer?" Why?
About ten years ago I did the National Circuit and finished in third. I also competed in a QuikSilver contest in Terrazas, but I prefer to be a "soul surfer," to surf for passion and fun without feeling any pressure in the water.
Which of the national and/or international surfers inspired you? Who are the friends that you prefer to surf with?
Of the national surfers, Carlos Muñoz and Leilani (McGonagle) inspire me. And I believe as all surfers do that Kelly Slater is always a great inspiration.
There is nothing better than a "girls surf trip" with my friends Maria Del Mar Alfaro, Yor Ureña, Andrea Jimenez, Kristin Fast, Zephyr and all the brave girls that enter the water to enjoy themselves.
What is your favorite maneuver?
Not so much a specific maneuver as much as to surf a wave that allows me to complete the maneuvers and that has a good wall to practice on.
Many thanks, Giannina, for your time, inspiration and words. We hope to see you soon, maybe at the Gran Final Reef in Playa Hermosa (next weekend) to enjoy. Stay strong! :)
